The time-zone rules built into your browser (IANA tz database)

Each result is the same instant shown on another clock. Offsets come from the IANA time-zone rules in your browser, so past dates use the rules that applied then. Future dates assume today's rules; governments sometimes change them at short notice.

About the Time Zone Converter

Convert a time from one time zone to several others at once, for calls, flights, deadlines and live events. Daylight saving time is handled for every zone, and the page warns you when the time you entered is skipped or repeated by a clock change.

An hour-by-hour table shows the whole day across your chosen cities, with normal working hours shaded, so you can spot a meeting time that suits everyone. Copy a link to share the exact conversion.

How it works

Your time and zone are turned into one exact moment (an instant in UTC), and that moment is then shown on each other clock. The rules for every zone, including when daylight saving starts and ends, come from the IANA time-zone database built into your browser. Nothing is downloaded and no server is asked.

Clock changes create two awkward cases. When clocks go forward, some local times never happen: in New York on 8 March 2026, 02:30 doesn't exist. When clocks go back, some times happen twice: in London on 25 October 2026, 01:30 occurs once in summer time and again an hour later. The calculator follows the rule in the iCalendar standard (RFC 5545): a skipped time is read using the offset from before the change, so 02:30 becomes 03:30, and a repeated time means the first one unless you choose the second.

UTC time = local time − that zone's UTC offset at that moment
other local time = UTC time + the other zone's offset at that moment

Assumptions and limits

  • Future dates assume today's rules. Countries sometimes change their clocks or abolish daylight saving with little notice; your browser picks up such changes when it updates.
  • Abbreviations such as EST or IST are shortcuts only. They are ambiguous (IST is used in India, Ireland and Israel), so each one is mapped to a single named zone, which you can see and change.
  • Dates from 1900 to 2100 are accepted. Before 1900 many places kept local solar time, which isn't useful for planning.

Worked examples

A 09:00 call in New York on 13 October 2026

New York is on daylight time (UTC−4), so 09:00 there is 13:00 UTC. That is 14:00 in London (summer time, UTC+1), 18:30 in India (UTC+5:30), 22:00 in Tokyo (UTC+9) and midnight the next day in Sydney (summer time, UTC+11).

The weeks when the US and Europe disagree

The US moves its clocks forward on the second Sunday of March, while the EU and UK wait until the last Sunday. On 15 March 2026, noon in London is 08:00 in New York, a four-hour gap instead of the usual five. A similar mismatch happens in late October and early November.

Half-hour and 45-minute offsets

Not every zone is a whole number of hours from UTC. At 12:00 UTC it is 17:30 in India and 17:45 in Nepal, and Lord Howe Island in Australia moves its clocks by only 30 minutes for summer.

Clock changes in 2026

Southern-hemisphere zones such as Sydney and Auckland change in the opposite direction, around April and October.

How to use the Time Zone Converter

  1. Enter the date and time. Use 24-hour time, or press 'Now, in my time zone'.
  2. Choose the zone it's in. Search by city, region or abbreviation.
  3. Add the zones to convert to. Read each local time, then use the hour-by-hour table to find a good meeting time.

Frequently asked questions

Does it adjust for daylight saving time?

Yes, for every zone and every date. The offsets come from the time-zone rules in your browser, so a date in July and a date in January can give different answers for the same two cities, exactly as the clocks would.

What happens if I enter a time that doesn't exist?

When clocks jump forward an hour, the times in between never happen. The calculator explains this and reads the time with the offset from before the jump, so 02:30 becomes 03:30, the same rule used by calendar apps that follow RFC 5545.

Which time is used when the clocks go back and a time happens twice?

The first occurrence, which is still on summer time. A choice appears whenever a time is repeated, so you can pick the second one instead, and every converted time updates to match.

Why is EST mapped to New York?

Abbreviations aren't unique or exact: people say EST all year even though New York uses EDT in summer. The calculator maps each abbreviation to a real zone that follows the right clock changes, and shows its name so you can see what was used.

Can I share a conversion with someone?

Yes. 'Copy a link to this' copies a web address containing the date, time and zones. Whoever opens it sees the same conversion, shown with the time-zone rules in their own browser.

Is UTC the same as GMT?

For everyday use, yes: both are the zero-offset reference, and London uses GMT in winter. Strictly, UTC is the atomic-clock standard and GMT is the older astronomical name, and London switches to BST (UTC+1) in summer.
