About the Translate PDF

Translate the text of a PDF into Urdu, English, Arabic, Hindi and 18 other languages, and download the translation as a text file or a Word document you can edit.

The PDF's text is sent to our server to be translated by AI. The file itself isn't uploaded, and the text isn't kept after the translation is made.

How it works

Your browser reads the text from the PDF, splits it into parts at paragraph breaks, and sends each part to be translated by AI, keeping the line breaks, numbers, names and codes. The parts are put back together in order, with a marker where each page starts.

You get the translated text, not a rebuilt PDF: the original layout, pictures and fonts aren't recreated. If any part can't be translated, nothing is saved, so you never get a document that's only half translated without knowing it.

Assumptions and limits

  • Up to 30 pages and about 40,000 characters at a time; split longer PDFs first.
  • Scanned PDFs have no text: run them through OCR PDF first.
  • AI translation is good for understanding a document and drafting, but check important documents (contracts, medical or legal papers) with a professional translator.
  • The text is sent to our server for translation and isn't stored there afterwards.

Worked examples

An English letter into Urdu

Choose the PDF, pick Urdu and translate. The Urdu text reads right to left in the preview and in the Word download.

A 10-page report

Each page's translation starts with a page marker (--- 3 ---), so you can find where each page's text came from.

Edit the result

Download as Word to fix wording, add your letterhead, then save it as a PDF again with Word to PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

The file isn't, but its text is: your browser reads the text and sends it to our server, where AI translates it. The text isn't kept after the translation is made, and nothing is shared with anyone else.

Will the translated PDF look like the original?

No. You get the translated text, as a text file or an editable Word document, not a copy of the PDF's design. Pictures, fonts and the page layout aren't recreated.

How good is the translation?

It's AI translation: usually accurate enough to understand a document and to start a draft, but it can miss nuance. Have important legal, medical or official documents checked by a professional translator.

Why did it stop with an error?

If the translator can't handle one part, the whole job stops and nothing is saved, so you never get a document that's only partly translated. Wait a minute and try again, or translate fewer pages at a time.

Which languages are supported?

You can translate into 22 languages: English, Urdu, Arabic, Hindi, Bengali, Punjabi, Persian, Turkish, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Malay, Dutch, Polish and Swedish. The original can be in any of these.
