About the Audio Splitter

Split one long recording into several shorter files: an audiobook into chapters, a DJ mix into tracks, a lecture into ten-minute parts, or a podcast into clips for sharing. Choose equal parts, a fixed length for each part, or the exact times to cut at.

The parts are cut in your browser and downloaded together as one ZIP file, numbered in order. Nothing is uploaded, and files up to 100 MB work, including the sound of videos.

How it works

First the audio engine reads the whole file to find its exact length and draw the waveform, with a line where each cut will be. The list under the settings shows the start, end and length of every part before you split.

Equal parts divides the length by the number you choose. Every … seconds makes parts of that length, with whatever is left over as a shorter last part. At these times cuts at each time you type, in any order; times outside the recording are ignored.

Each part is cut from the decoded sound to the sample, so the parts join back together with no gap and no overlap. They are named after the original with the part number, such as Lecture - part 03.mp3.

Assumptions and limits

  • Up to 100 parts per split; each part is a separate file inside the ZIP.
  • MP3, M4A and OGG parts are encoded at 192 kbps; WAV and FLAC keep every detail.
  • Unzipping works on any computer and on phones in the Files app.

Worked examples

A one-hour lecture in ten-minute parts

Choose Every … seconds and type 10:00. You get six parts of exactly ten minutes, ready to listen to between classes.

A mix into its tracks

Choose At these times and paste the track start times, such as 3:42, 7:15, 11:03, to get one file per track.

A voice message in halves

Choose Equal parts and 2 to split a long voice note into two halves that fit a messaging app's size limit.

How to use the Audio Splitter

  1. Choose the long recording. Audio or video up to 100 MB.
  2. Set where to cut. Equal parts, a fixed length, or exact times.
  3. Download the parts. All of them together in one numbered ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

How do I split an MP3 into equal parts?

Choose the MP3, pick Equal parts and type how many parts you want, from 2 to 100. The list shows each part's start and end, and Split audio saves them all in a ZIP, numbered in order, without uploading the file anywhere.

Can I split audio at exact times?

Yes. Pick At these times and type the cut points as minutes and seconds, separated by commas or one per line, for example 1:30, 3:05.5. A cut at 1:30 ends one part and starts the next at exactly that point.

Is any audio lost or repeated between the parts?

No. Every part is cut from the decoded sound at the exact sample where the previous one ended, so playing the parts one after another gives back the whole recording with no gap or overlap.

Why do I get a ZIP file?

A split makes several files at once, and browsers handle one download much better than dozens. The ZIP keeps the parts in order with clear names; open it with your computer's or phone's Files app to get the separate audio files.

How many parts can I make?

Up to 100 per split. If a fixed length would give more than that, the page says so; choose a longer length, or trim the recording first with the audio trimmer and split each half separately.
