About the N-up & Booklet PDF
Print several PDF pages on one sheet of paper: 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 or 16 pages per side, or arrange the pages as a booklet you can fold in half. It saves paper for handouts, slides and drafts.
Pages are placed in order across each sheet and scaled to fit without distortion. Everything happens on your device.
How it works
The tool tries the sheet both ways round and chooses the layout that makes the pages biggest: two portrait pages fit best side by side on a landscape sheet, while four fit best on a portrait sheet in two rows.
Pages fill each sheet left to right and then down, like reading, or top to bottom and then across if you prefer. A thin border around each page can be added to make cutting easier.
Booklet mode reorders the pages for saddle stitching: print double-sided, flipping on the short edge, and fold the stack in half; the pages then read in order. For 8 pages the sides are 8 and 1, 2 and 7, 6 and 3, then 4 and 5. Blank pages are added at the end when needed.
Assumptions and limits
- Sheets are A4, A3, A5, US Letter or US Legal, or the size of the PDF's first page.
- Pages keep their proportions; small margins are left around the sheet edge.
- Password-protected PDFs need the password removed first.
Worked examples
Lecture slides as handouts
A 60-slide presentation at 6 per sheet prints on 10 sides instead of 60.
A small booklet
A 12-page A5 programme laid out as a booklet prints on 3 sheets of A4, double-sided, and folds into the right order.
Proofreading a long draft
Two pages per sheet keeps text readable while halving the paper.

Frequently asked questions
What does N-up mean?
N-up printing places several pages on one sheet, where N is the number of pages: 2-up puts two pages side by side, 4-up puts four in a grid. It's common for handouts and drafts.
How do I print a PDF as a booklet?
Choose Booklet, download the result and print it double-sided with flip on short edge. Fold the stack in the middle and staple along the fold; the pages will read in the right order.
Why were blank pages added to my booklet?
Each folded sheet carries four pages, so a booklet needs a multiple of four. If your PDF has 10 pages, two blank pages are added at the end to make 12.
Will the text be too small to read?
At 2 or 4 pages per A4 sheet most documents stay readable. At 9 or 16 the pages become thumbnails, which suits slides with large text or a quick overview rather than reading.
Does it work with pages of different sizes?
Yes. Each page is scaled to fit its own space on the sheet and centred there, so mixed sizes and orientations all fit without being cut off or stretched.
