About the PayPal Fee Calculator
See how much PayPal keeps from a payment and how much you'll receive, for business payments to US and UK PayPal accounts. You can also work backwards: enter the amount you want to end up with and get the amount to ask the buyer for.
Choose the payment type, where the buyer is and the currency you're paid in; the percentage and the fixed fee are shown separately.
How it works
PayPal charges a percentage of the payment plus a fixed fee that depends on the currency you receive. A US account pays 3.49% plus $0.49 for a PayPal Checkout payment in dollars; a UK account pays 2.9% plus £0.30 for most payments in pounds.
When the buyer is in another country, an extra percentage is added: 1.50% for US accounts, and for UK accounts 1.29% from buyers in the EEA or 1.99% from everywhere else. Payments between the UK, Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man count as domestic.
To find the amount to ask for, the calculator divides your target plus the fixed fee by what's left after the percentage, rounds up to the cent and then checks the cents around it, so the answer is the smallest amount that still leaves you at least your target.
Assumptions and limits
- Standard published rates for business (commercial) payments. Negotiated or volume rates differ.
- Currency conversion costs extra and isn't included.
- The fee is rounded to the cent or penny.
Worked examples
$100 through PayPal Checkout (US)
3.49% of $100 is $3.49, plus the $0.49 fixed fee: PayPal keeps $3.98 and you receive $96.02.
£100 from a buyer in France (UK)
2.9% plus 1.29% for an EEA buyer is 4.19%, which is £4.19, plus £0.30: you receive £95.51.
Wanting exactly $100 to arrive
Ask for $104.12. PayPal's fee on that is $4.12, which leaves you $100.00; asking for $104.11 would leave $99.99.

Frequently asked questions
How much does PayPal charge to receive money?
For business payments to a US account, PayPal Checkout costs 3.49% plus $0.49 and card payments 2.99% plus $0.49. A UK account pays 2.9% plus £0.30 for most payments. International payments add an extra percentage on top.
Is there a fee for goods and services payments?
Yes. On a US account, money sent for goods and services is charged 2.99% with no fixed fee. Personal payments between friends and family that aren't for a purchase are a different category and aren't covered here.
How do I make sure I receive a set amount?
Choose 'The amount I want to receive' and enter it. The calculator returns the smallest amount to ask for so that, after PayPal's percentage and fixed fee, at least your target reaches your account.
Why does the fixed fee change with the currency?
PayPal sets the fixed part of the fee by the currency you receive. A US account pays $0.49 on dollar payments but £0.39 on pound payments, while a UK account pays £0.30 on pounds and €0.35 on euros.
Does PayPal charge extra for international buyers?
Yes. A US account pays an extra 1.50% when the buyer is in another country. A UK account pays an extra 1.29% for buyers in the EEA and 1.99% for buyers elsewhere, on top of the domestic rate.
