About the Pip Value Calculator
Find out how much one pip is worth on any forex pair, in your account currency, for standard, mini, micro or nano lots. It's the number you need to turn a move in pips into money.
Choose the pair and your account currency; the calculator asks for a price or an exchange rate only when the maths needs one.
How it works
A pip is the fourth decimal place for most pairs (0.0001) and the second for pairs quoted in Japanese yen (0.01). The value of a pip is the position size in units times the pip, which gives an amount in the pair's quote currency.
That amount is then turned into your account currency. If the quote currency already is your account currency, nothing changes. If the base currency is your account currency, it's divided by the current price. Otherwise it's multiplied by the rate from the quote currency to your account currency.
Assumptions and limits
- Lots: standard 100,000, mini 10,000, micro 1,000, nano 100 units of the base currency.
- Some brokers quote gold, indices and crypto with their own pip definitions; this tool is for currency pairs.
- For planning only, not financial advice.
Worked examples
EUR/USD
In a dollar account a pip on one standard lot is 100,000 × 0.0001 = $10, on a mini lot $1.
USD/JPY at 150.00
100,000 × 0.01 = ¥1,000, which is ¥1,000 ÷ 150 = $6.67 per pip.
EUR/GBP in a dollar account
A pip is £10 per standard lot; at 1 GBP = 1.27 USD that's $12.70.
How to use the Pip Value Calculator
- Pick the pair. Base and quote currency.
- Choose your account currency. Add the price or rate if asked.
- Set the lot size. Read the value of one pip.
Frequently asked questions
How much is one pip worth?
On EUR/USD, GBP/USD and other pairs quoted in dollars, one pip on a standard lot is worth $10 in a dollar account. For other pairs the value changes with the exchange rate.
Why is a JPY pip different?
Yen pairs are quoted with two decimal places instead of four, so a pip is 0.01. On USD/JPY at 150, one standard lot pip is ¥1,000, which is about $6.67.
Does pip value change over time?
Yes, unless the quote currency is your account currency. For USD/JPY or EUR/GBP in a dollar account, the value moves with the exchange rate, so recalculate with today's price before a trade.
What's the difference between a pip and a pipette?
Many brokers show one more decimal place than the pip, called a pipette or fractional pip. Ten pipettes make one pip, so a pipette is worth one tenth of the value shown here.
Can I use it for gold or indices?
Not reliably. Gold, oil, indices and crypto contracts use broker-specific sizes and tick values. Check the contract specification in your trading platform for those instruments.
