About the Bitcoin Mining Calculator
Estimate how much Bitcoin a mining machine earns and whether it covers its electricity. Enter the hashrate and power use from the machine's specification, your electricity price and pool fee, and today's network difficulty and Bitcoin price, and see the daily, monthly and yearly profit or loss.
The page also shows the electricity price at which mining breaks even, the machine's efficiency in joules per terahash, and how long the hardware takes to pay for itself.
How it works
On average the network finds a block once for every difficulty × 2³² hashes. A miner producing H hashes a second therefore earns H × 86,400 ÷ (difficulty × 2³²) blocks' worth of reward a day, shared through the pool, which keeps its fee. At 100 TH/s and a difficulty of 100 trillion that is 0.0000629 BTC a day before the pool fee.
Electricity is the machine's power in kilowatts times 24 hours times the price per kWh: a 3,250-watt machine uses 78 kWh a day. Profit is the value of the Bitcoin earned minus that cost, and the break-even electricity price is the revenue divided by the kWh used.
The block reward has been 3.125 BTC since the April 2024 halving; transaction fees paid to miners can be added per block.
Assumptions and limits
- Difficulty and price are kept constant. Difficulty has generally risen over time, which lowers each machine's share.
- Earnings are averages: a pool pays out steadily, while mining alone pays nothing until a block is found.
- Cooling, internet, maintenance and taxes aren't included unless you add them to the electricity price.
Worked examples
A 100 TH/s machine
At a difficulty of 100 T, a price of 60,000 and a 2% pool fee it earns about $3.70 a day, but uses $6.24 of electricity at $0.08 per kWh.
Cheap electricity
At $0.03 per kWh the same machine makes about $1.36 a day, $40.69 a month.
Break-even power price
That machine breaks even at about $0.047 per kWh; any cheaper and it makes money.
How to use the Bitcoin Mining Calculator
- Enter your machine. Hashrate, power use and electricity price.
- Add network values. Today's difficulty and Bitcoin price.
- Read the profit. Per day, month and year, with break-even.
Frequently asked questions
How is Bitcoin mining profit calculated?
Expected Bitcoin per day is your hashrate times 86,400 seconds times the block reward, divided by the difficulty times 2³², less the pool fee. Multiply by the Bitcoin price and subtract the daily electricity cost to get the profit.
Where do I find the network difficulty?
Block explorers and mining sites show the current difficulty, usually as a number in the trillions such as 120 T. Enter that number in trillions; it changes about every two weeks as miners join or leave.
What electricity price makes mining profitable?
The page shows the break-even price for your machine and inputs. Efficient modern machines need cheap power, often well under ten cents per kWh, to make a profit at typical difficulty and price levels.
What is J/TH?
Joules per terahash is a machine's power use divided by its hashrate, a measure of efficiency. A lower number means less electricity for the same work; newer machines are far more efficient than older ones.
What happens to mining profit at the next halving?
The block reward halves roughly every four years. At the next halving, expected around 2028, it falls from 3.125 to 1.5625 BTC, so revenue halves unless the price or transaction fees rise to make up for it.
