About the Crypto Liquidation Price Calculator
Find the price at which a leveraged crypto futures position would be liquidated. Enter long or short, the entry price, the leverage and either your margin or the position size, and see the liquidation price and how far away it is in percent.
It covers USDT-margined perpetual futures with isolated margin, the most common kind on Binance, Bybit, OKX and similar exchanges, and lets you choose between the two ways exchanges measure the maintenance margin.
How it works
Your margin is the position's value divided by the leverage, plus any margin you added. The position is liquidated when the margin plus the unrealised profit or loss falls to the maintenance margin, a small percentage of the position (the maintenance margin rate, often 0.4% to 1%).
Exchanges differ in which price the maintenance margin uses. With the Binance-style formula it is measured at the liquidation price itself, so a 10x long on 1 BTC from 50,000 with a 0.5% rate is liquidated at 45,226.13. With the Bybit-style formula it is measured on the entry value, giving 45,250. The tests check that at every result, margin plus loss equals the maintenance margin exactly.
Larger positions fall into higher tiers with a higher rate and a maintenance amount (deduction) that the exchange lists in its tier table; enter both under Extra margin and higher tiers.
Assumptions and limits
- Isolated margin with one position on the pair. Cross margin uses your whole balance, which moves the liquidation price.
- Trading fees and funding payments change the margin slightly over time and aren't included.
- Exchanges liquidate on the mark price, not the last traded price, and may close a position a little before the exact level.
Worked examples
10x long
1 BTC from 50,000 with 5,000 USDT of margin and a 0.5% rate: liquidation at 45,226.13 (Binance-style) or 45,250 (Bybit-style), about 9.5% below the entry.
50x short
2 ETH sold at 3,000 with 120 USDT of margin: liquidation at 3,044.78, only 1.49% above the entry.
Adding margin
Adding 500 USDT to the 10x long moves its liquidation price down to 44,723.62.
How to use the Crypto Liquidation Price Calculator

Frequently asked questions
How is the liquidation price calculated?
The position is liquidated when your margin plus the unrealised loss equals the maintenance margin. Solving that for the price gives the liquidation price: below the entry for a long, above it for a short, and closer to the entry the higher the leverage.
Why is my exchange's liquidation price slightly different?
Exchanges include trading fees, funding, the position's tier and sometimes other open positions, and they use the mark price. Check that the maintenance margin rate and formula match your exchange; the remaining difference is usually a few dollars.
How far can the price move before I'm liquidated?
Roughly 100 ÷ leverage percent, minus the maintenance margin rate. At 10x a long survives a fall of about 9.5%; at 50x only about 1.5%; at 100x well under 1%, which ordinary price swings reach often.
What is the maintenance margin rate?
It is the minimum share of the position's value the exchange requires you to keep as margin. It is listed for each pair and position size on the exchange's margin or leverage tier page, often 0.4% to 1% for the smallest tier.
Can a 1x long be liquidated?
No. With 1x leverage the margin equals the whole position value, so the price would have to fall to zero before the margin ran out. The page says so instead of showing a liquidation price.
