Runs in your browser. Files never leave your device.
Choose a videoMP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI and more · up to 100 MB · processed on your device, never uploaded

The video engine (about 10 MB) downloads the first time you use one of these tools; after that your browser keeps it. Videos are processed on your device, so a long or high-resolution video can take a few minutes.

About the Video Converter

Convert a video to MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV or AVI. Choose the video, pick the format you need and download the converted file.

The conversion runs in your browser, so the video is never uploaded. Most video formats up to 100 MB can be opened, including MOV from iPhones, MKV, WebM, AVI and 3GP.

How it works

MP4, MOV and MKV are saved with H.264 video and AAC sound, the combination nearly every phone, computer, TV and website plays. WebM uses the VP8 video codec with Vorbis sound, for websites and Android. AVI uses MPEG-4 video with MP3 sound, for older players and editing software.

The video is re-encoded at a high quality setting, keeping its resolution and frame rate, and the sound is re-encoded at a bitrate that keeps it clear. The first video and sound track are converted.

Converting to MP4 is the safest choice when a phone, app or website rejects your file: it's the most widely accepted video format.

Assumptions and limits

  • Resolution and frame rate are kept; only the format and codecs change.
  • Conversion re-encodes the video, so it takes longer for long or high-resolution videos.
  • Subtitles and extra sound tracks aren't carried over.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a video to MP4?

Choose the video, keep MP4 selected and press Convert to MP4. The video is re-encoded with H.264 and AAC, which plays on every phone, computer and website, and you can download it when it's done.

Which video format should I use?

MP4 for almost everything: it plays everywhere. WebM for websites that ask for it, MOV for Apple editing apps, MKV when you want one file for any video, and AVI only for older software.

Does converting a video lose quality?

Any re-encoding changes the video slightly, but the converter uses a high quality setting and keeps the resolution and frame rate, so the difference is very hard to see.

Can I convert iPhone MOV videos?

Yes. MOV files from iPhones, including those recorded in HEVC, can be converted to MP4, which plays on Windows, Android and every website, up to 100 MB.

Why does converting take a while?

Every frame is re-encoded on your own device rather than on a server. Short clips take seconds; long or high-resolution videos can take minutes. Your video stays private because it never leaves your device.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you enter or upload stays on your device and is never sent to our servers.
