About the Voice Changer

Change your voice with fun and useful effects: chipmunk, deep voice, robot, alien, telephone, megaphone, echo and cave. Record a voice note or pick any recording, choose an effect and download the changed voice to share in chats, videos, games or pranks.

Everything happens in your browser, so your voice is never uploaded. Any audio or video file works, up to 100 MB.

How it works

Chipmunk and deep voice move the pitch up 6 or down 5 semitones without changing the speed, so you still talk at your normal pace. Alien raises the pitch 3 semitones and adds a quick wobble. Robot switches the sound on and off 60 times a second, which gives the metallic, buzzing tone of film robots.

Telephone keeps only the frequencies a phone line carries, 300 to 3,400 Hz, so the voice sounds thin and distant. Megaphone narrows the sound further and adds grit. Echo adds one repeat a quarter of a second later, and Cave adds three fading repeats up to 1.2 seconds later, like a large stone room.

The result is saved in the original format when it can be written, or as MP3, and you can listen before downloading.

Assumptions and limits

  • Effects work on any sound, but are designed for speech.
  • Echo and Cave make the file slightly longer, to let the last repeat finish.
  • MP3, M4A and OGG are saved at 192 kbps; WAV and FLAC keep every detail.

Worked examples

A chipmunk birthday message

Record a short greeting on your phone, apply Chipmunk and send the squeaky version in a chat.

A robot voice for a video

Apply Robot to a narration to give a game trailer or school project a sci-fi announcer.

Anonymous voice

Deep voice or Telephone makes a recorded voice harder to recognise for a quiz or a surprise.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change my voice in a recording?

Record a voice note on your phone or computer, choose it on this page, pick an effect such as Chipmunk or Robot and press Change the voice. The changed recording plays on the page and downloads as an audio file.

Does the chipmunk effect speed up my voice?

No. Chipmunk raises the pitch by six semitones while keeping the speed, so your words come at the normal pace. To make a recording faster, use the audio speed changer instead.

How does the robot voice work?

The sound is multiplied by a 30 Hz wave, which turns it on and off 60 times a second. This is called ring modulation, and it gives the classic buzzing, metallic robot voice heard in old science-fiction films.

Can I change the voice in a video?

Choose the video and its sound is changed and saved as an audio file. The picture isn't kept, so to put the new voice back into the video you would need a video editor.

Is my voice recording uploaded anywhere?

No. The effects are applied by FFmpeg running inside your browser, so the recording stays on your phone or computer. Once the page and its audio engine have loaded, it even works offline.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you enter or upload stays on your device and is never sent to our servers.
